First Few Days

The reality hasn't quite set in yet... Is it a bad dream? Is it just a big hoax?

The power supply is intermittent, the water is still flowing through the taps which is good. The gas has gone off though. Which is weird.

I've still got tins of food but it's getting cooler in the evening. I need to be able to make a fire with the bits I've got as my lighter is half empty and I only have a single box of matches left...

  • Safety brief, amenities and site rules

  • Fire pit

  • Fire types; group heat (Tipi); concealed (Dakota); reverse lattice (drop embers); long log (star fires); twin log burners with backstop; Swedish Log

  • Fire safety

09:00

  • Sharp tools safety demonstration

09:30

  • Natural fire lighters; fat wood; silver birch bark; feather sticks; grasses; bulrush

  • Processed fire lighters; cotton wraps; paraffin paper; fire lighters; alcohol gel

  • Fire lighting techniques; matches; flint and steel; magnifying glass; ferrous rod

10:30

  • Refreshment Break

  • Dakota Fire Pit
